Moreton Island

Dead trees

On the south Eastern beach near Mirapool Lagoon  there is an amazing feature of trees that have been washed up and/or consumed by the sand, that lay buried,  continually changing its features as the tide washes in and out.  What view may be seen one month may look different a month later.  The white branches buried in the sand  is a stark contrast against the  emerald colours of the sea in the background.  The easterly drive from Kooringal is good  drive and easiest navigating easterly.  It can be tricky at times when driving westerly.

Cape Moreton and the Lighthouse

As you drive northerly up the eastern side of Moreton at the  tip is where the  Cape Moreton Lighthouse is situated you will see beautiful tide  patterns and pools of water and magnificent views.   The drive is easy, on hard packed sand traverse accessible on all sorts of tides.   Below the Lighthouse you will see the sea crashing against the rocks and cliff face.  Great photos to be taken

Blue Lagoon

On your drive up to the Lighthouse you can stop at the Blue Lagoon.  A fresh water lagoon surrounded by vegetation, fed from underground water table and rivers.  Lovely and relaxing..

West coast drive

When you make your way down to Dave’s Gutter Bar in Kooringal, you need to be sure it is low tide.  Dave’s is a great place to have morning tea or lunch, an ever popular spot to drop in.   As you drive down, you will pass  a shipwreck just north of Kooringal,  but don’t forget to drop in and buy some oysters – you will see the sign and there is parking.  As you head into the sandy tracks on your way home from the north side of the island, you will see beautiful bush and many  balga grass plants

Wonderful views

Just beautiful sites to see whilst driving around Moreton Island.
